The Scripture says, “The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge…” (2 Samuel 22:3). These words are trustworthy.
At dusk on September 5 of 2008, I rode home on my bike from the county. When I rode to a country road, a car suddenly came up behind me and directly crashed the rear wheel of my bike. Then my bike was sent flying for several meters; I fell back and the back of my head hit the windshield hard. As the car went at a high speed and stopped so suddenly, I, on the car hood, was thrown over four meters away. At that time, I only felt the world spin, and I lay on the ground, losing consciousness.
I didn’t know how much time had passed by when I woke up. I thought even if I didn’t die, I would be crippled for life. I silently prayed to God in my heart, “Oh, Lord! It was because of Your protection that I wasn’t killed by the car. Now I am worried about whether I will be crippled. May You give me faith and strength so that I won’t be worried or afraid. May You protect me.”
After praying, I wanted to get up, but because I was dizzy and ached all over, I couldn’t stand up after several attempts. Then the driver reached out and pulled me two times, and I still couldn’t. I sat for a while, continuously praying to God in my heart. The left leg of my trouser was worn out by the roadway, and my left knee was skinned and kept bleeding. When seeing I was badly injured, the driver was also very scared. I felt my feet were cold, and at that time I noticed that I was barefoot. The driver helped me find them, and tried to help me up. Then I, enduring the pain and being supported by him, stood up and walked a few paces lamely and slowly. I felt great pain in my legs, but I could walk, which meant my legs weren’t broken; I flexed my arms. At that time, I thanked God for His care and protection and expressed true praises to Him in my heart. The Lord indeed is my shield and refuge, and this time I truly experienced that. Thank the Lord!
Seeing my serious injuries, the driver wanted to take me to the hospital for an examination. I said to him, “Nothing is seriously wrong with me. I needn’t go to the hospital.” Hearing me say like this, he then helped me in his car and drove me home. In the light of the car, I saw the rear wheel of my bike was buckled and my bike had to be abandoned. He said to me, “You’re so lucky! When my car hit you and sent you flying out, I was frightened.” I thought, “It wasn’t that I was lucky. It was because God watched over and protected me today that I didn’t die in the accident. This was the manifestation of the Lord’s great power.” I thanked the Lord from the bottom of my heart.
Then, I thought of the accident a few days ago. A man in my village and his wife and his two children on a motorcycle crashed into a truck at the roadside. He and one of his children died on the spot. His other child was thrown away and got injured seriously. After the child was sent to the hospital, he also died despite medical treatment. A car accident killed them three. But now, I could survive this car accident, which really was God’s protection.
God rules all things, and our life is in His hands. No matter how dangerous the situation is, as long as we pray to Him, the Lord is constantly helping and supporting us, and is always with us. Although I never saw God, I saw His protection for me from my experience. Even though the car moved at a high speed and threw me several meters away, I only skinned my arms and legs, suffering some superficial injuries; I didn’t even suffer a small fracture. Without God’s protection for me, I would have died or been seriously injured. I was full of gratitude for His protection.
After a few days, I heard that the driver who hit me told the villagers, “In that accident, he didn’t die. Even if he hadn’t been thrown several meters away, he should have suffered a concussion at least after his head hit the windshield. However, he was safe and sound. It really is true that the Lord Jesus he believes in protected him and he believes in the true God.” After hearing of this, I kept thanking the Lord for His care and protection. What I didn’t expect was that my injuries all healed in a week.
“For in the time of trouble he shall hide me…” (Psalms 27:5). Recalling the experience in this accident, I was grateful to God in my heart. If the Lord had not protected me in such a serious accident, maybe I would have died. I truly felt His almighty hand supported me; I also deeply experienced that only when we have the Lord can we have something to rely on and have assurance of life, and can our hearts be steadfast and peaceful. Thank the Lord! May all glory and praise be to God!
