The Wondrous Protection: A Stray Child Was Sent Back
September 1, 2014 is the first day of school to my son, Xiaojun. That afternoon, early at 3 p.m., I rode my electric scooter to the stop to pick him up.
When it was time for kindergarten students to get home from school, unexpectedly, except my son’s school bus, all others carrying students went past me one by one. I waited with anxiety and thought, “The bus is delayed? Why hasn’t it arrived yet?” After a few more minutes, his bus still didn’t come. At that time, I found that over half an hour had passed since school was out. So I got a bad feeling at once and then I thought, “The bus couldn’t be delayed for so long even if it is behind schedule. Could it be that there is something wrong?” Thinking of this, I rode to his school quickly. But after arriving, I saw there had been no students in the school and Xiaojun’s bus had been parked there. Then I hastened to the driver, only to be told that he thought Xiaojun would get off at the stop in the city center like the other students, so when the bus reached that stop, he asked Xiaojun to get off.
At his words, I felt so nervous. I thought, “Xiaojun is just six years old and he has yet to know his way home. Will he be lost when alone at the stop? What if he is led astray by evil persons?” Being much afraid and anxious, I also remembered the news that I saw several days before, “Nowadays, there are many swindlers that specialize in kidnapping children to get money. Some of them break the bones in children’s hands and feet and force them to beg for money. Some even take corneas of children to sell. …” Then I felt more afraid and I didn’t dare to continue thinking of this. I hurried to the place that the driver told me. However, after I arrived there, Xiaojun was no longer at the stop. I searched around as I would, but I couldn’t find him. This made me extremely anxious and I immediately told my family what had happened. On hearing all this, they were also as nervous as cats on a hot tin roof. My father went there to look for Xiaojun, while my husband went here. And as far as I could remember, I went to the places where Xiaojun used to play. However, when night fell, I still didn’t see him. I stood on the street and called his name continuously. But there was no response. Full of anxiety, I prayed to God silently, “O God! My son is lost and I can’t find him. Please keep him in safety. Please help me find my child!”
It was dark already. I thought, “Maybe my father or husband has found Xiaojun.” With a little hope, I rode back home as fast as possible. However, I only saw that my husband gloomily came back with sweat all over his face and my father sighed on the sofa because he hadn’t found Xiaojun. Out of desperation, I wept. And I thought, “It’s late now and Xiaojun is so young. Will something bad happen to him?” I had no choice but to pray to God again and again, “O God! I don’t know what to do. I have found everywhere that I remember, but I can’t find my son. God! Everything is in Your hands and the safety of Xiaojun is also in Your hands. Please watch over and protect him.” After praying, I calmed down gradually.
At around 11 p.m., I suddenly received a call. The man on the other end of the phone said Xiaojun was beside him and he asked me to get Xiaojun home. Hearing this, I knew God had listened to my prayer. Afterward, I knew what had happened that time. After the students got off the bus at the city center, seeing that the other children were all picked up by their parents, Xiaojun began to walk ahead alone. Not knowing how many crossroads he had passed, he met two drivers. One of them tried to contact me and the other looked after Xiaojun. Learning all this, I thanked God’s care and protection for Xiaojun in the bottom of my heart. If not for God’s protection, when Xiaojun walked on his own in the city center, a heavy traffic area, he might have gotten into a car accident or have been led astray by evil persons. However, God used two kind drivers to look after my son and keep him in a safe place and even reach me. It was really God’s protection!
The Bible says, “But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phl 4:6-7). From this experience, I see that no matter what difficulties we encounter, as long as we sincerely pray to and rely on God, entrust everything to Him as well as look up to Him, He will guide and help us. Thank God! Amen!
